About this item

  • For Thin to Very Thin Hair: The Rootie hair iron features ¾” inch wide plates that are perfect for those with thin to very thin hair that is chin length or shorter, or even long hair that is extremely fine or thin.
  • Lasting Volume: The Voloom irons are designed specifically to give you lasting hair volume, so you can extend the amount of time between shampoos and colorings. With fewer colorings and shampoos, your hair will start to become even healthier!
  • Patented Plate Technology: Ceramic plates paired with a patented checkerboard design work on the under layers of your hair to create a hidden volumizing structure or “volume pockets” that lift the top layers up and away from the scalp, creating a fuller, more Voloominous look!
  • Adjustable Temperature: Adjustable temperature settings from 220°F to 395°F allows you to experiment and find out what temperature works best for your hair type, and helps to prevent unwanted damage to your hair.
  • Chemical-Free Hair Care: The VOLOOM iron is a hair volumizer that eliminates the need for costly blowouts and hair styling products such as volumizing sprays, gels and mousses that can weigh hair down.
  • Pro Tips: Remember, VOLOOM is used in the underlayers of the hair covered by an untreated top layer. Everyone’s hair is unique! Start with a low heat setting and clamp VOLOOM on an underlayer for only a second or two — long enough to say VOLOOM. If you want more volume, raise heat in small increments until you find the temperature that gives you your perfect volume. The most common mistake is clamping too long. For that full glam look, start near the root and clamp and release down to about ear level. Trust the process!

Product works like it says it does. Add a little bit of lift and my hair doesn't even show the crimp lines. It was hard to spend this kind of money on a crimper but the reviews swayed me. Nice long cord too. Easy on, off and can set temp.

I have been stalking this for a while, reading reviews, watching videos. I finally pulled the trigger. I was skeptical and initially thought it was a lot of $$$! Now I think it’s some of the best $$$ I’ve ever spent, for real. A little about me: 57 yo; lots of hair, but on the fine, slick side. My hair has never liked to hold a curl. at peri- and now post menopause, I’ve had the typical thinning on the top, crown, temples, and sides of head. I despise hair products except to smooth my ends and maybe a very find misting of hair spray to frame my face. . I find any “volumizing”” products to be snake oil. I cannot tolerate any root lifters or dry shampoo on my scalp. They cause itching. In addition, I can’t stand the feel of these products. They feel stiff and gritty, overall a dirty feeling. I’ve tried teasing, but without aforementioned product, it just won’t hold up. THIS tool works. It is very subtle, but just enough to give that illusion of a bit of fullness and volume. If one were to use the tool with any products, WOW! I suspect one could achieve crazy lift, but that’s not what I was after. I am simply thrilled with this tool. I have a slightly layered bob that is shoulder to clavicle length. I almost bought the Rootie size, but after watching many videos, I felt the Petite would be perfect, and it is. It’s just the right size. I’m of the age where I grew up in the 1980s with really BIG hair. lol. I think the current flat crown look is lovely on most/some, but with my particular features, plus my whole face starting to melt/sag with age, I want to detract from my face, not bring focus in on it. Again, I couldn’t be more thrilled! I love it.

For me, the key to success with the Rootie by Voluum instrument is: (The 1.5 inch was perfect for my mid-length hair, past the shoulders).
1. 320 degrees is plenty hot enough. Any hotter, and you can damage your hair.
2. I only use this tool 1-2 times a week. Any more and I think it would lead to damage.
2. Do not "clamp" down hard and long. The goal here is not to "crimp" your hair. That's not the purpose of this tool.
3. Only use it on the roots and on the "under" sections of your hair - never anywhere else.
4. NEVER hold the hair between the clamping tool for longer than 2-3 seconds. Clamp it, open and remove the tool, and check the volume. If you think it's not enough, do it again for 2-3 seconds. But trust me, there will be more volume there than you think when you do this in several sections and then proceed to style - avoid using it on the thinnest, baby hairs near the face. I find those hairs are not strong enough to sustain the heat and they're harder to hide the clamp marks if you hold down too long/too hard.
5. No matter how 'thin' you think your hair is, you always want to use this only on the roots UNDER the top layer of your hair, never on the outer layer. So, using a comb, fold a top section over, clamp the under section at the root, and release. Do the other side and the back, near the crown.
That's it - for me, the whole thing takes less than 5 minutes, but it does create lift and volume. My hair is about two or three inches past my shoulders.
Lastly, I use the following after-shower hair products: Aveda, Pure Abundance Style Prep, Aveda thickening tonic, and BB Don't Blow It Thick Hair Styler, (yes, I DO realize it's for people with thick hair. Buy it anyway. It's a miracle worker). I use all three of these on towel-dried hair, then dry it with my Dyson dryer. All of these things combined have been a game-changer for me (oh, and following the "Fine Hair Friends" group on Facebook - lots of great tips there).
I do believe this product was worth the money for me.
